How to know what your level is in IELTS/CELPIP

IELTS/CELPIP – Know Your Level:  Both exams evaluate your English language skills, but how do you determine your level in IELTS or CELPIP? This blog will teach you about the scores for IELTS and CELPIP and how they truly determine your level and the direction you wish to pursue.

How many hours do You need to get ready for IELTS and CELPIP

Many people are asking how many hours they need to get ready for IELTS and CELPIP. If you haven’t taken the exam before, it’s advisable to take one and determine your level, or simply have a free session with our company where our teachers will assess your score and estimate the required hours. This marks the first step in determining your current standing.

Let’s assume you already completed a previous course and you aim to progress from Band 5 to around 6 in the IELTS. Transitioning from Band 5 to Band 6 shouldn’t take long, approximately 20 hours. The calculation is based on allocating 10 hours per half-band point, thus 20 hours for a one-band increase from 5 to 6. Moving from 6 to 6.5 may require approximately 30 hours. However, when aiming for 6.5 to 7, the requirements significantly change. Achieving a Band 7 nowadays necessitates exceptional vocabulary and minimal mistakes. Therefore, the time needed increases to approximately 15 hours, making it a total of 45 hours to progress from 6.5 to 7.

To progress from 5 to 7, you require 45 hours of training. If you aim to move from 6.6 to 7, you would need a minimum of 15 hours of training. Therefore, the number of hours depends on your previous score and current level. Based on these factors, we provide the corresponding estimates.

These numbers represent a common industry standard, and they have proven to be a highly successful formula for us. Through years of training and analyzing student outcomes, we have determined that these numbers help strike the right balance between excessive and insufficient preparation. These figures are our recommended estimate for anyone seeking to determine their current level. It’s important to note that these numbers pertain specifically to our company’s class training. I cannot speak for other companies and their durations. However, with our classes, we have found that allocating these hours with our teachers ensures both safety and efficiency in achieving your desired score. Therefore, I highly recommend following these suggested hour amounts as they offer a reliable path towards guaranteeing your desired score.

Home Preparation

When we talk about home preparation we are talking about the same numbers because these hours are when you work with the teacher.

Now when you study by yourself just multiply all these numbers by three so if you are looking by yourself without a teacher, the 45 hours would become 135 hours of self-study.  If you are going from 6.5 to 7 and you and you take 15 hours with the teacher, again if you do it at home all by yourself, it will take you 45 hours.

When considering home preparation, the same-hour estimates apply since they are based on working with a teacher. However, if you choose to study by yourself, you should multiply all these numbers by three. For instance, if you are studying without a teacher, the initial estimate of 45 hours would increase to 135 hours of self-study. Similarly, if you aim to progress from 6.5 to 7 and take 15 hours of teacher-led instruction, studying independently would require approximately 45 hours. By tripling the numbers, it accounts for the additional time and effort needed when undertaking self-study without the guidance of a teacher.

Preparation with the Teacher

With the teacher, you gain access to shortcuts, techniques, and rapid learning methods. This significant difference is a result of the instruction provided in-class training. To experience this firsthand, we invite you to visit our website, www.hzadeducation.com, where you can explore our teaching methods, try our complimentary first session, and receive coaching assistance.

While it is possible to spend 135 hours studying at home, there is a risk of practising incorrect methods or misguided information obtained from unqualified sources on the internet or individuals lacking credentials in the field of study.

I highly recommend coaching because even after so many hours of training, you might still not make it. This is not a sales pitch; it’s exactly what happens to students when they try to study themselves. They don’t know the right strategy or what the examiner is looking for. Eventually, they have to take the classes anyway. So, I would highly recommend it.

In CELPIP, the same thing happens when people aim to score 9. If you don’t want to spend ten hours going from 6 to 7, or ten hours going from 7 to 8, as soon as you start discussing going from 8 to 9, you need 15 hours. Every point in CELPIP requires 10 hours of effort, but achieving a 9 requires 15 hours. That’s how you can calculate it.

When it comes to the point of what happens overnight, some people need to dedicate 15 hours to attain a CELPIP score. Essentially, going from 9 to 10 in CELPIP requires 15 hours, and going from 7 to 7.5 in IELTS also takes 15 hours. So, once you reach these extreme limits, it continues to be 15 hours of training to improve each level.

I hope this information will assist you in figuring out the amount of training you need, whether it be in a class or by yourself. This should help you decide how you want to proceed with your training and alleviate any doubts you may have about the duration and investment required, such as how much time or how many months you have to spend.
