Speaking & Writing Tips: PTE Part 1: The Speaking and Writing section of the test contains an Introduction and seven different question types which include Personal Introduction, Read aloud task, Repeat Sentence task, Describe an Image task, Re-tell Lecture, Answer the short question, Summarize Written Text and Write an Essay.

In this blog, we will discuss tasks 4, Task 5, Task 6, Task 7 of the PTE Part 1: Speaking & Writing which includes:- Re-tell Lecture, Answer the short question, Summarize Written Text and Write an Essay.
Each task is designed to assess a specific aspect of a candidate’s speaking and writing skills.
Speaking & Writing: PTE Part 1
Task 4 – Re-tell Lecture
In this task, the candidate is played a lecture on the audio, and then they are asked to re-tell the lecture in their own words. This task evaluates a candidate’s ability to listen and comprehend a lecture and then communicate it effectively.
To complete this task, you will be required to summarize the audio content you hear. The audio will begin playing automatically, and an accompanying image may also be displayed.
You will have 10 seconds to prepare after the audio finishes playing, and the recording status box will show a countdown until the microphone opens.
It is important to wait for the short tone before starting to speak, as any audio before the microphone opens will not be recorded.
When speaking, it is recommended that you speak clearly and not rush.
You must finish speaking before the progress bar reaches the end, at which point the word “Recording” will change to “Completed”.
Please note that you will only have one chance to record your response.
During the audio playback, you are allowed to take notes on the provided erasable note board.

Task 5 – Answer Short Question
In this task, the candidate is asked a short question and is expected to answer it in one or a few words. This task evaluates a candidate’s ability to comprehend and respond to simple questions.
How to answer this question
The audio begins to play automatically. You may also see an image.
When the audio finishes, the microphone opens and the recording status box shows “Recording”. Speak into the microphone immediately (there is no short tone) and answer the question with one or a few words.
- You should speak clearly. There is no need to rush.
- Finish speaking before the progress bar reaches the end. The word “Recording” changes to “Completed”.
- You are not able to replay the audio. You are only able to record your response once.
Speaking & Writing: PTE Part 1
Task 6: Summarize Written Text.
In this task, are given a passage of around 300 words on the screen, and you are required to summarize it in one sentence within 10 minutes. This task evaluates your ability to comprehend and analyze written information and to summarize it accurately using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
You have 10 minutes to write your summary. Make sure to include the main points of the reading passage in a full, single sentence of no more than 75 words.
The word count at the bottom of the screen counts the number of words you write. There are also cut, copy and paste buttons which you may use while constructing your summary.
Cut: Select text from your answer that you wish to remove and left-click “Cut”.
Copy: Select text from your answer that you wish to copy and left-click “Copy”.
Paste: Place the cursor where you wish to paste the cut/copied text and left-click “Paste”.
Preparation
You can better prepare for this task by enhancing your reading and comprehension skills. A useful approach is to read various texts, including news articles, academic journals, and essays, to develop your ability to extract the main idea from a given piece of text. Additionally, you should concentrate on improving your writing skills by learning different sentence structures and conveying information concisely. This will enable you to produce a grammatically correct and easy-to-understand summary that incorporates all the crucial information from the passage.
Key Steps to Effective Summary
In order to write an effective summary, you should follow a few key steps. Firstly, you should read the passage carefully and try to identify the main idea or theme. Secondly, you should make a note of the key points, examples, and supporting details in the passage. Thirdly, you should write a concise and accurate summary sentence that covers all the essential information from the passage.
It is important to note that you will be scored on both content and language use in your summary sentences. Therefore, you should aim to use appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structures to convey your ideas effectively.

Task 7: Write an Essay
In the PTE Part 1:speaking & writing test task 7, you are required to write an essay of 200-300 words on a given topic. Further, this task assesses your ability to effectively organize your ideas, use appropriate grammar and vocabulary, and express yourself in writing.
To excel in the speaking and writing sections of the PTE, you must focus on enhancing your English language skills. You can practice speaking and writing in English with tutors, friends, or family members.
Additionally, you can improve your comprehension skills by listening to English audio, watching English movies, and reading English texts.
