In the CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) test, Task Response is a crucial aspect of the speaking and writing sections. Task Response refers to how well you address the specific task or question and effectively communicate your ideas in response to the prompt.
Task Response is a critical aspect of the CELPIP test. Therefore you must carefully read and understand the instructions for each task, plan and organize your ideas, and effectively communicate your thoughts to address the specific task or question asked to achieve a high score.
Writing and speaking are where most people fail. This is where the Examiner has the opportunity to fail you because they are human beings checking your writing and speaking.
For example, you may find these responses from examiners.
– “I don’t like how you have answered the questions it is not clear to me” – when the Examiner says this, you get a 6 or 7
– “It’s very clear and the explanation makes sense” – you might get 10
These are just two different examiners giving feedback on the same answer, but do you see how this drastically affects your marks? YES, Human Opinion can interfere with what is a fair result.

The above is a weak response since it is very general and does not cover details or examples. Instead, you should discuss the disadvantages of a shopping mall in good detail.
The best approach to the above question is the why and how strategy
HOW EXAMPLE: If I build a shopping mall right now, it will increase unproductivity in society because people will spend time and waste money instead; we should have made something more beneficial to society.
WHY EXAMPLE: A shopping mall would cause more expenditures from middle–class families since they will have the urge to spend money given all the fancy Shops and Brands now available at their disposal.
In the above Examples, we can see that when we answer the “HOW,” we discuss the process to justify our point. However, with the “WHY,” we explain things from a theoretical point of view. It is almost like someone asks us, “Why are shopping malls Bad for People’s finances, and we answer using…….” Because (insert the point here).”

You are evaluated on your ability to use correct verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and pronouns. Additionally, you should use appropriate sentence structures, such as complex sentences and compound sentences, to effectively communicate your ideas.

You can improve grammar at home with many online resources such as ENGLISHGRAMMAR.ORG and similar websites offering quizzes and theories. You can also install the free version of “Grammarly” to give you quick and complex recommendations.

Another significant factor that contributes to failure in exams is vocabulary. Insufficient use of a diverse range of vocabulary, complex words, phrases, and sentences in writing and speaking can also lead to failure in the CELPIP.

- The CELPIP test assesses your ability to use appropriate and varied vocabulary in speaking and writing. You should use precise words to convey ideas and express opinions clearly.
- In both the speaking and writing components of the CELPIP, your proficiency in utilizing appropriate and diverse vocabulary will be evaluated. Employing precise words to convey ideas and articulate opinions effectively is essential.
There are some keywords such as:
“DUE TO,” “WHILE,” “ALTHOUGH ” “BASED ON“
These words break sentences into two parts which makes them complex!
For example: “due to the bad weather, I cannot go outside today.” As you can see, using ‘due to’ breaks the sentence into two parts, making it complex.
Don’t stop here, though:
- Make sure to use some simple sentences as well. Combining simple and complex sentences will give you a good mark. Not just all complex sentences or all simple sentences.
- Further, make sure to use the range. This is super important! This means using adverbs and adjectives. Adverbs have ‘ly’ in them, such as ‘quickly/slowly/nicely.’ Whereas adjectives are qualities like ‘good/bad/happy.’ Make sure to use a mixture of them.
- In the writing section, you must use appropriate and varied vocabulary to convey your ideas effectively. Using a wide range of vocabulary demonstrates your ability to express yourself clearly and precisely. Therefore, you should use appropriate words and phrases to convey your ideas concisely and coherently.
- You should read many English-language books, practice using new words and phrases in your written and verbal communications, and use English language learning tools to speed up the process of picking up new vocabulary.
