In this blog, I am giving you five examples of complex sentences and a bonus. Namely “Considering”  “Due to” “given that” “Although” and a Bonus.

In the past, I have made the mistake of teaching ten-plus complex words, and people needed clarification or did not use them.  In fact, you only need five complex sentences, 2 for task 1 and 3 for task 3.

IELTS 5 Main MUST Use Complex Sentences

CONSIDERING

Below are Sample Complex sentences using “Considering”

“Considering the lack of resources we have currently, planetary exploration becomes essential. These are two points: “considering this” and “coming up.”

“Considering the advantages and disadvantages of living in a big city, I believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.”

Example of how to use “considering” in a complex sentence:

“Considering the fact that I had never studied the subject before, I was pleased with how well I did on the exam, which was a testament to the effectiveness of the study group that I joined.”

In this sentence, “considering the fact that I had never studied the subject before” is a dependent clause that introduces a circumstance relevant to the main clause. The main clause is “I was pleased with how well I did on the exam,” and the relative clause, “which was a testament to the effectiveness of the study group that I joined,” provides additional information about the main clause.  Hence, this sentence shows how you can use “considering” to introduce a dependent clause and add complexity to a sentence.

DUE TO

Due to is the same thing as “because” or “since” but “Due to” is less common and unique.

Example of how to use “due to” in a complex sentence:

This phrase, “which led to the evacuation of thousands of residents,” adds further detail. Hence, this sentence shows you how to use  “due to” to indicate the cause of an event and add complexity to a sentence.

The “while” conjunction can help you create complex sentences that show a cause-effect relationship or a contrast between two ideas.

Examples of how you can use “while” in complex sentences for IELTS writing:

(i)  Cause-effect relationship: “While studying hard for the IELTS exam, I was able to improve my writing skills significantly.”

In this sentence, the cause is studying hard for the IELTS exam, and the effect is improving writing skills.

(ii)  Contrast: “While some people believe that technology has made our lives easier, others argue that it has created more problems than it has solved.”

When using “while” in complex sentences, it is essential to ensure the sentence is grammatically correct.  Also, ensure the meaning is clear and the sentence is appropriately linked to the rest of the text. Additionally, it is essential to use a variety of complex sentences in your writing to demonstrate your language proficiency.

INTERESTINGLY

I put it interestingly here because it is a connector and a “ly” word, using words like lovely, quickly, gradually, and slowly.  You should use such words because they do two things: add connectors and complex.  Actually, if you use any of these, you get good grades in writing, so force yourself to memorize and practice this.
