IELTS Reading Question Types: To prepare well for your IELTS test, you must make sure that you practice each type of question.

The IELTS reading section contains 14 different types of questions, and you will have one hour to read two passages and answer 40 questions. Further, these questions are always divided into different types of questions that you must answer. Notably, each gallery contains three or four different kinds of questions to answer.

1. Matching Headings Questions

- First, understand the purpose of a section.
- Secondly, Figure out the difference between a main idea and supporting points.

Tips

- First read the heading before beginning to read the passage.
- Moreover, there are often more headings than you need..
- Further, examine a heading to a section or paragraph before attempting to match it.
- Notably the answers are frequently numerical I ii, iii, iv, etc. – read instructions carefully to ensure accuracy).

2. True or False or Not Given,Yes or No or Not Given Questions

You will see statements you need to identify as True/False or Not Given. Further, you may also see this as Yes or No or Not Given. Therefore, you will need to understand wich information is in the passage, which is not in the passage and which is not included.

Task:

Determine whether the passage contains the information or the writer’s opinion in the question statements.

Skills

- First, It is locating specific information within the passage.
- Secondly, scanning and comprehension of information (TF/NG questions).
- Thirdly, understanding the author’s perspective (Y/N/NG questions)

Tips

- Understand the significance of each answer.
- Yes/true indicates that the passage contains the same information.
- No/false=the information in the passage is contradictory.
- Not Given, the information is not given because it is not found in the passage.
- Before attempting to find the answers, read the statements.
- The answers are given in chronological order.

3. Matching Paragraph Information Questions

You will read informational fragments (such as examples or details) and determine which paragraph of the text contains the information.

Task:

- Match the information in the question in one of the passage’s paragraphs.

Skills

- Identifying specific information
- Scanning

Tips

- The information contained in the question.
- Look for the information in the passage.
- The answers do not come in chronological order.
- The answers are frequently a letter (A, D, C, D… – read carefully to ensure accuracy).
- Not all paragraphs are permitted to be used.

4. Summary Completion Question

You will be given a summary part of the text; hence,you must complete it by picking words from the text with a maximum number of words.

Task

- - complete a summary by filling in the gaps using words from the passage or talks given in a box.

Skills

- - Scanning for specific information in the passage
  - Understanding ideas and supporting points
  - Selecting appropriate words

Tips

- - Determine each gap’s proper word type (noun, verb, adjective, etc.).
  - To choose the appropriate term, locate the information in the passage.
  - Check how many words can be used for each answer if you use words from the course.
  - The Summary must be grammatically correct so that you can choose the appropriate word to fill the gap.
  - Answers are typically given in order.

5. Sentence Completion Questions

In this type of question you will find an incomplete sentence. Therefore,you are supposed to finish it with words from the text. In addition, to find the correct answer, you must quickly map the incomplete text to a specific location in the text.

Task:

- - Completion sentences by filling the gap with words from the passage.

Skills

- - Determine the type of word required for each gap (noun/verb/adjective, etc.).
  - Locate the information in the passage to select the appropriate word.
  - The sentences must be grammatically correct for you to choose the appropriate word for the gap.
  - Examine the number of words that can be used for each answer.
  - Answers are usually given in chronological order.

6. Multiple Choice Questions

These types of questions in which you must select the correct answer from a list of capital letters ABC and D. This type of question assesses your ability to comprehend specific and detailed information.

Task

- - Choose the correct answer to a question or the right ending to a sentence from usually 3 or 4 possible options

- - Scanning for specific information
  - Understanding information in the passage

Tips

- - Rephrase the details from the options and the question
  - Find the specific information in the passage; order your responses
  - The letters A, B, C, or D are typically the answers; carefully read the directions to make sure.

7. List Selection

You will see a question and a list of possible answers, similar to the multiple choice question. However, this question will indicate how many options you must choose from (for example, Which of the four skills is mentioned?

Task

- - Choose the correct option from the list of words, information, or names.
  - Unlike multiple-choice, this has questions related to a single, lengthy possible response.

Skills :

  - Understanding information in the passage
  - Further, Identifying ideas relating to others

Tips

- - First, go through the list and get your paraphrases ready.
  - Read the questions and mark essential words.
  - Further, find the relevant details in the passage.
  - Notably, Answers come in order.

  - Furthermore,the answers are typically letters (A-G).

8. Choosing a Title

You must choose the best title for a passage based on the information you find in the passage.

Task:

- Choosing the most appropriate title from a list.

Skills

- Identifying the aims of a passage
- Distinguishing between detail and main aims

Tips

- Examine the variations between the potential titles.
- Please don’t spend too much time on this question because it only earns one point.
- Hence, Focus on the passage’s introduction and conclusion.

9. Classification Questions

Classification questions ask you to classify information from the reading text. Hence, you will have some statements from your text and a list of options (A, B, C, etc.). Your task is to match each statement with the correct option.

Task:

- Decide which category the information belongs to from a list.

Skills

- Locating information in the passage
- Categorizing information

Tips

- Find information in the passage
- Decide which category the information belongs to
- Look out for paraphrases.

10. Marching Sentence Endings

You will see the first half a sentence and need to match it with the correct second half. Therefore , you must complete the sentence using the information in the passage.

Task

- completing sentences by matching the start of the sentence with the correct ending given in a list.

Skills

- Understanding information

Tips

- Read the sentences, then look at the potential conclusions.
- Draft your paraphrases.
- Look for details in the passage.
- Pick the most appropriate capping to go with the passage’s information.
- The finished sentence needs to be grammatically sound.
- Sentence beginnings correspond to the passage’s informational hierarchy.
- Letters (A-G) are typically the answers; carefully read the directions to be sure.
- Usually, more options are provided than are necessary.

11. Table Completion

You will see a table with blank fields; you must correctly fill in the blanks using the passage’s information. In addition, You’ll be given a word bank to choose from, and you’ll have more options than you do correct answers.

Task:

- Completing the table using the correct word from the passage

Skills

- Locating specific information
- Choosing appropriate words
- Understanding details
- Read the table’s

Tips

- Column headings.
- Determine the appropriate word type for each section of the table.
- Look over the passage for details.
- Answers are frequently found in a particular section of the passage.

12. Flow Chart Completion Questions

You will see a flow chart with missing information, similar to the table and diagram completion questions; therefore, you must correctly fill in the flow chart.
Subseqeuntly, you may or may not have a word bank.
Primalily, flow charts are frequently regarded as one of the most difficult questions due to their complex layout.

- - Completing the flow chart using the correct words from the passage.

13. Diagram Completion Questions

You will see one or more diagrams with incomplete labels. Further, you need to fill in the missing words using the information in the passage. Precisely, the instructions will let you know how many words you can use.

Task:

- - Labeling a diagram

Skills

- - Locating information in the passage
  - Understanding detail and specific information

Tips

- First, Determine the types of words required for each answer (noun/verb, etc.).
- Secondly, Look for information in the passage.
- The information is usually found in one or two paragraphs of the passage.
- Furhter, examine how many words you can fit into the answer.
- Notably, answers do not always come in the correct order.

14. Short Answer Questions

You must exercise extreme caution in this situation! This question expects you to answer based on the information provided in the text. Consequetnly, you should also check the number of words because you are limited. There is always a word count limit.

Task:

- Answering questions regarding details in the passage

Skills:

- Locating information in the passage
- Understanding detail and specific information

Tips

- Firstly, identify the type of words required for each answer (noun, verb, etc.) and the vocabulary in the questions.
- In addition, scan the passage for information.
- Equally important, examine how many words you can use to answer the questions.
- Notaly, the answers are presented in chronological order.
