IELTS Reading Strategies:  In this blog, we will learn about IELTS reading comprehension and how to deal with long, difficult-to-understand passages.

The following advice is for academic reading passage 3 of the GT paper, which is also lengthy.

 Retention

This is a common question.  How do I recall everything I’ve read?

The answer is no, you do not.  IELTS reading does not require you to recall what you have read or what each paragraph contains.

Comprehension

How can I understand everything if the passage is lengthy and complex?

The answer is no, you do not.  It is not necessary to understand everything in the IELTS reading.  It is all about finding solutions.

IELTS Reading Strategies

When you first receive your reading passage, skim it.  You scan the course to learn about the general topic, content, and layout.  This should take no more than two minutes.  You are not aiming to understand it; you want to know what the passage is about before diving into the questions.

After skimming the passage, you proceed to the questions.  Keep an eye out for the type of question.  Look for keywords or information within the question.  Instead of understanding each sentence, this should be done quickly to spot a word or piece of information.  You read the sentence after locating the location in the passage that contains the answer.

IELTS Reading Tips:  How to Increase your score

Below are IELTS Tips that include how to develop reading IELTS exam skills and also improving your English score

1.  Develop skills for each type of question in reading.

There are approximately 14 questions, and you must devise a strategy to answer each.  Some question types have sequential answers, while others do not.  This information will assist you in saving time and finding the correct answers.

2.  Skimming & scanning

You should be able to skim and scan passages to do well in IELTS.  Skimming is reading a route to get an idea of the content.  This is recommended before tackling the questions.

3.  Develop speed Reading Skills.

This test has a strict time limit, which will put your ability to complete the questions on time to the test.  To find answers quickly, you must practice speed read ng.  This implies that you must be able to scan the passage for information.

4.  Don’t Try to understand the entire passage.

Your only task is to find the answers.  Most questions assess your ability to locate specific information and comprehend the sentence or sentences containing that information.

5.  Develop Vocabulary

This is one of the primary reasons students fail to achieve the required score.  Learning Vocabulary entails more than just learning the definition of a word; it also entails knowing when you can and cannot use a word.

6.  Key Words

Each question will include keywords to help you locate the information in the passage and identify the correct answer.  It would be preferable to learn to recognize and use critical words correctly.  You should also see if the keywords are paraphrased.

7.  Grammar

When answering questions like summary and sentence completion, you must ensure the sentence is grammatically correct.  This means that grammar can assist you in determining the correct answer.

8.  Practice Makes Perfect

Unless you practice regularly, you will not improve.
