CELPIP Email Writing Template: <\/strong>In this blog, we will examine CELPIP writing Task 1, specifically focusing on the Email. Let’s begin with the first writing task. You have two tasks in the writing section, and with CELPIP, you are aware that you will be performing them online. Writing online offers numerous benefits. The first task involves composing an email, while the second task entails writing a survey which we will cover in the next blog.<\/p>\n

Writing Task 1:\u00a0 Writing an Email<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

You are going to get a prompt like this one below and you have to write two 150-200 words.<\/p>\n

Read the following information<\/p>\n

You are an elementary school teacher.\u00a0 There is a famous writer who lives near your school.<\/em><\/p>\n

In about 150-200 words, write to this writer and invite her to speak to the children in your class.\u00a0 Your message must include the following points<\/em><\/p>\n

  • An Introduction to the School and your class<\/em><\/li>\n
  • Why the Children like this writer\u2019s books?<\/em><\/li>\n
  • An invitation to visit the classroom<\/em><\/li>\n
  • What the writer can do with the Children.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

     <\/p>\n

    I highly recommend sticking to the 200-word range if you are aiming for a word count between 150 and 200 words. Typically, people tend to hover around 200 words when they reach levels 9 and 10. Therefore, please ensure not to exceed 200 words, as it may not yield favourable results.<\/p>\n

    When considering your tone, the first step is to determine whether it should be formal or informal. Here’s a quick tip: if you are addressing your family members, opt for an informal tone. Therefore, for anyone outside your family circle, including your best friend, it is advisable to maintain a formal tone.<\/p>\n

    Today, we are focusing on a formal tone because we have a renowned writer who resides near our school. You will be assuming the role of a teacher inviting someone.<\/p>\n

    Before we start writing this is a breakdown.\u00a0 Take a look<\/p>\n

            Brainstorming <\/strong><\/h3>\n

            As per the above breakdown before you start writing. Spend 2-3 minutes brainstorming and use this time diligently. You are asking, “What is the question?” The question is inviting a famous writer.\u00a0 Hence, ensure that you fulfil the task by inviting them and telling them what they can do with the children. Explain why the children like this book and make sure to include all of those points and maintain coherence. Think about brainstorming your coherence and consider if this is an invitation email. Is this email not only about the book but also about the writer?<\/p>\n

            \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

            Outline<\/strong><\/h3>\n

            .<\/p>\n

            Spend three to four minutes with your outline. Write it down on a piece of paper and use shorthand to write quickly. Write a complete outline. Your writing will be messy and incoherent without an outline. Aim for the logical organization. Begin with the introduction, stating the purpose. In an email, the purpose is usually expressed in one or two sentences. Move on to the main body paragraph, which can consist of one or two paragraphs, possibly two short paragraphs. What is the main idea? Conclude with a final tag, such as “sincere” or “best regards.”<\/p>\n

            Include supporting details in your outline. Make sure you have backup sentences for statements like “the children liked your book.” Why did they like it? Furthermore, ensure your response is thorough and fulfils the task, covering all the necessary points.<\/p>\n

            Writing <\/strong><\/h3>\n

            \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

            In your writing time, you give yourself about 17 to 18 minutes around there because you should save some time for proofreading.\u00a0 While you are writing make sure you have a suitable tone, we already talked about formal and informal.\u00a0 A suitable tone will match that.\u00a0 Also, write down some accurate vocabulary now.<\/p>\n

            Now I actually sometimes include this in the outline, (watch the attached video), When I write down my outline, I will also include maybe four or five vocabulary or vocabulary phrases that will boost my writing up a level.\u00a0 So if you add this to your outline you will be sure to transfer them to your writing and it gives you two times to verify, is this accurate vocabulary that I am using<\/p>\n

            You should give yourself about 17 to 18 minutes for your writing time, allowing some time for proofreading. While writing, ensure that you maintain a suitable tone, considering the previously discussed formal and informal styles. Additionally, include accurate vocabulary in your writing. When outlining, I include four or five vocabulary words or phrases that will elevate my writing. (watch the outline in this video). \u00a0Adding this to your outline guarantees their inclusion in your writing and provides you with two opportunities to verify the accuracy of the vocabulary you use.<\/p>\n

            Proof Reading <\/strong><\/h3>\n

             <\/p>\n

            Make sure to allocate some time for yourself. Read the email once, pause and consider something else, then return and read it again. Approach it from a different angle and analyze your grammar and syntax. Ensure that you always work in the third person. I highly recommend using the third person, such as: “There was an interesting event at our last fun fair.” To avoid using the first person excessively (I, me, we), which can diminish the quality of your writing, students should refrain from starting every sentence with “I.” For example, instead of saying “I would like to invite you to the party,” it would be better to say “You are invited to the party.”<\/p>\n

            Also, be mindful of correct spelling. While online writing tools may correct misspelt words, they may not catch homophones with different meanings. For instance, “weather” refers to atmospheric conditions, while “whether” relates to a choice or possibility. Similarly, words like “there” and “their” or “patient” and “patience” have distinct meanings. Hence, do not solely rely on spelling correction; your instructor will carefully read your work and identify any errors.<\/p>\n
